We clearly have a significant amount of work in our sights to deliver on the Orphan Shade vision. However, sometimes there is value in reviewing accomplishments and recognizing milestones. Therefore, we have summarized both the difficult and the miraculous (God delivered) events and tasks that have been completed to date.

2016

  • Initial trip by Jay Schierloh to visit Prince Kampomo in Malawi
  • Co-founders agree on ministry vision, purpose and approach (model)

2017

  • The IRS grants Orphan Shade 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in the U.S.
  • First Malawi lawyer absconds with registration funds (Prince calls the police)

2018

  • Orphan Shade Malawi (OSM) Board of Trustees formed in Malawi
  • Malawi Ministry of Finance registers OSM nonprofit entity (two year process)

2019

  • CONGOMA grants OSM Non-Government Organization (NGO) status in Malawi
  • Board of Trustees approve selection of Mpangeti village as the first location for a home
  • Purchased land in Mpangeti village (see blog post)

2020 (first half)

  • Completed and approved drawings of the first home (see blog post
  • Identified a local builder to construct the home (see blog post)
  • Published a new website (see blog post)

Targets for second half of 2020 (all subject to Covid-19):

  • Groundbreaking ceremony and builder contract signing
  • Construct home in Mpangeti
  • Select and train house parents from the local church
  • Qualify & select orphans from the village to reside in the home
  • Grand opening ceremony
