Put yourself in a rural Malawian orphan girl's shoes. Mom and dad died when you were young. Your grandmother reluctantly agreed to be your gurdian. The guardian depends on others for income. Therefore, there is always a painful struggle for food. Therefore, no money is available for school fees and a uniform. You are unable attend school with your friends and relatives. You feel excluded, hopeless and lack a sense of dignity.
Your investment is making a big difference in the girl’s education. Recent report cards reflect continued high performance for the Pangeti girls and major jumps in Chipolopolo and Mdeka girls.
The Orphan Shade girls are taking advantage of the opportunity laid before them. The girls recently received local school updates for the spring term. The academic performance measure is delivered in the form of class rank or position (no grades are provided).

The Mdeka girls have been with us for 1 year. The first recorded school outcomes for these girls was released in December 2024. It was clearly a mixed outcome. Also, the new tutor, Mrs. Tamara Hoka, began her work in November 2024. The April results clearly reflect significant improvement.

The Chipolopolo girls joined us in 2023 (2 years). They have struggled acaemically from the beginning. The tutor we originally hired was happy to take our money and deliver very little in excxhange. We replaced the former tutor and hired Mrs. Thokozani Bonzo. Mrs. Bonzo is a credentialed and experienced teacher. She is clearly making an positive impact (see www.orphanshade.com/post/our-tutors).

The Pangeti girls have been with us for 3 1/2 years (2021). They continue to deliver strong academic results. Note that Shakira joined recently. She did not attend school prior to joining us. Regina (14) continues to excel in Standard 7. She willl be our first child to complete Standard 8 next year.
Thank You!
