Elijah Vascoh (Child Counselor) captured data from each child via a Clinical Trauma Screen instrument in March 2026. The instrument is used world-wide to assess vulnerable orphan children and monitor behavioral changess over time. We used the same instrument to capture data from same girls one year ago. Therefore, this is our first comparison of child sourced data captured one year apart. Big cudos to Elijah for collecting the data. Below are the subjects that each child self assessed:
- The child has physical reactions from remembering traumatic events (sweating, heart racing, etc…)
- The child stays away from people that remind her of past traumatic events
- The child has trouble feeling happy
- The child has trouble sleeping
- The child has trouble concentrating or paying attention (e.g. school)
- The child feels alone and not close to the people around them
They responded to each question with the following options:
- Never/Rarely
- 1-2 times per month
- 1-2 times per week
- 3+ times per week

The “Feel Alone” chart above reflects a significant shift from 2025 to 2026. The girls voted in 2026 that they do not feel alone 1/2 of the time vs. multiple events per week or month in 2025. Clearly, we have more work to do to improve further. However, the data suggests our approach of two parents, a local pastor, a tutor and 8 church ladies are making a big dent in our OVC’s.
